Create joy and

connection
in your family through
Sensory Emotional Play

We’re so glad you’re here!

We know that sensory-motor experiences play a significant role in a child’s daily life and emotional well-being. We also know a direct relationship exists between social, emotional, sensory, and movement-based challenges - the way we process sensations and move our bodies impacts the emotions we feel, and the way we sense, move, and feel impacts the way we act and interact with others and our environment.

Using play-based activities, we’re here to help you meet children in their sensory and emotional states and playfully interact with them to enhance emotion regulation, participation in day-to-day activities and events, and, ultimately, more joy in relationships.

This learning center is designed to bring our therapeutic model, the Sensory Emotional Engagement Model™, into your home or work. Throughout, you'll discover valuable insights, practical strategies, and resources designed to enhance your understanding of sensory and emotional regulation in your children (and yourself). By understanding Sensory Emotional Personality Styles™, you'll better understand a child's strengths and weaknesses in sensory-motor and social-emotional development and, most importantly, ways to interact with them in both tricky and great times.

Discover how sensation and emotion impact your child's behaviors and everyday life

Our sensory systems play a crucial role in how we experience and interact with the world around us. We often take these sensory systems for granted. Still, they are constantly working to provide us with information about our body and environment with the goal of producing movements (adaptive responses) to engage in interactions, tasks, and activities successfully.

Hi, I’m Michele Parkins!

I’m an Occupational Therapist endorsed as an Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist. I specialize in working with children and families with Sensory Processing and Integration Disorders and challenges in social-emotional development. I am also a parent of two sensory kids – so I work and live sensational kids! I’m also a fellow of Dr. Lucy Jane Miller, OTR.

I’m passionate about working with families and other therapists and continue to do so as a clinician and educator. I proudly educate therapists from all over the country and the world and continue to consult schools on sensory processing disorder treatment. I co-authored a chapter in the 3rd edition of Sensory Integration: Theory and Practice, the textbook for sensory evaluation and treatment, alongside world-renowned pioneers in the field, and I’m currently writing a parenting book and children’s books to support parents and families in understanding the impact of sensory processing differences on social emotional capacities including family dynamics and relationships and day to day routines and activities. I hope to help everyone - children and adults- understand their Sensory Emotional Personality™ style and ways to find strength and joy within them.
